About Krewe:

The Krewe du YaYas was started in 2002 and currently has 126 members.  The Krewe du YaYas Keeping Abreast Foundation was formed in 2010. The YaYas have three fundraisers each year that directly support the foundation.  We participate in many other community events throughout the year and strive to keep the trophy for Top Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Fundraising Team.
The Keeping Abreast Foundation provides assistance to those in need from South Baldwin County Alabama to Okaloosa County Florida.

Details:

The Krewe du YaYas is an organization of women that volunteer their time and efforts to help make a difference in the crusade against breast cancer. Our mission is to inspire hope and enhance life for those affected by breast cancer through early detection, advocacy, education and support services.

Through our many appearances and support of local festivities, Breast Cancer Awareness month activities and Krewe sponsored fund raising events we have become one of the top fundraising nonprofit organizations in this area.

The frilly and somewhat whimsical costumes of a “YaYa” with the pink hair bring delight and cheer to both the young and old!

The color pink has been chosen as a symbol to honor all mothers, sisters, aunts, friends and strangers; as well as those men that have been touched sometime in their life by this dreaded disease.

The tiaras are a symbol to all women saying yes, you can be Princesses and Queens in your daily lives!

The boas are a symbol to show our spirit of the Carnival and our desire to follow our motto of
Living, Laughing, and Loving.

Membership:

Membership is limited to 150 ladies that are 25 years of age or older. If you want to be a YaYa, Mardi Gras is the best time to find us around town. Get to know a member that will nominate you in June and Good Luck!
