Pensacola Mardi Gras Celebrations

Pensacola Mardi Gras, Inc. took over the Grand Mardi Gras Parade more than 20 years ago. Thanks to the combined efforts of Danny Zimmern and Amy Newman, along with countless dedicated volunteers, we have successfully established a vibrant and exciting Mardi Gras Season here in Pensacola. Over the years, this celebration has grown significantly, attracting an increasing number of Krewes who bring their own unique events and energy to support and enhance the festivities.

The involvement and enthusiasm of our Krewes are the backbone of our Mardi Gras celebrations. Each Krewe brings its own flavor, creativity, and spirit to the season, helping to create a dynamic and diverse array of events that cater to all tastes and interests. Their support is invaluable to us, and it is through their dedication that we are able to enjoy the fun and excitement that Mardi Gras brings to our community each year.

As the popularity of Mardi Gras in Pensacola continues to rise, so does the interest and support from our Sponsors. Our Sponsors play a crucial role in the success of the Mardi Gras season. Their generous contributions enable us to organize, enhance, and expand the festivities, ensuring that each year is more spectacular than the last. The collaboration between Pensacola Mardi Gras, Inc., our Krewes, and our Sponsors creates a strong, vibrant community spirit that makes our Mardi Gras celebrations truly special.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue growing and evolving, welcoming new Krewes and Sponsors, and creating unforgettable experiences for everyone involved. With the continued support and enthusiasm of our community, Pensacola Mardi Gras will remain a cherished tradition for many years to come.

What makes Pensacola's Mardi Gras Celebration Different From Other Cities?

The history of Pensacola’s Mardi Gras dates back to 1874 with the formation of the first Knights of Priscus. This rich tradition has allowed Pensacola’s Mardi Gras Celebration to stand shoulder to shoulder with other historic parades such as those in Mobile, Biloxi, and New Orleans. However, Pensacola’s celebration has carved out a unique identity, known for its exceptionally family-friendly environment.

Unlike many other Mardi Gras parades that may focus primarily on adult festivities, Pensacola’s approach ensures that all members of the community, from young children to adults, can fully enjoy the celebration. The parade features sections and events specifically designed for families, providing a safe and joyful atmosphere for parents and children to partake in the festivities together. Colorful floats, lively music, and engaging activities are tailored to captivate the younger audience, making it a memorable experience for children.

At the same time, Pensacola’s Mardi Gras also offers a vibrant array of entertainment options for adults. From lively street parties and concerts to more sophisticated events, adults can enjoy the festive atmosphere in spaces that cater to their interests. The thoughtful separation of family-friendly areas from adult-oriented activities ensures that everyone can have a fun and enjoyable time, no matter their age or preference.

This unique dual approach is what makes Pensacola’s Mardi Gras truly special. By focusing on inclusivity and diverse entertainment, we ensure that all age groups are having as much fun as possible. Every year, new ideas and enhancements are incorporated, continuously expanding and improving the celebration. Our commitment to upholding these values while embracing innovation allows us to host one of the best Mardi Gras celebrations possible.

As we look to the future, our goal remains to create an unforgettable experience for everyone who attends Pensacola’s Mardi Gras. With a blend of time-honored traditions and fresh, exciting elements, we strive to make each season better than the last, celebrating the spirit of Mardi Gras in a way that is uniquely Pensacola.
